Our goal was to redesign the directory and maps in order to improve the wayfinding and navigation for patients in the care center. We decided in order to address these issues we would have to focus on the layout, color, and typography of the directory and maps.
My team and I addressed issues with the directory at the UC Davis Health Lawrence J. Ellison Ambulatory Care Center. The directory was struggling from a combination of inaccurate information and a confusing layout that resulted in many visitors getting lost and requiring further assistance to find their destinations.
My team had about six weeks to complete this project. The first two weeks were spent conducting preliminary research on the problem, and gathering enough information to guide us to an effective solution. This included field research at the location and completing user interviews with patients and staff at the care center.
Then our next steps were dedicated to creating sketches and prototypes for the maps and directory, and then we moved on to conduct user testing in order to receive feedback on the changes we would include in our final design.
